A revolutionary process that efficiently converts coal into clean burning energy has been developed and is commercially available from Bixby Energy Systems, Inc., a Minneapolis-based new-energy technology development company.

The patent-pending Bixby Process™ superheats coal in a closed-loop environment to produce high-quality synthetic natural gas. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, utilities that run on synthetic natural gas produce up to 65 percent fewer carbon emissions compared to those that burn coal. Unlike competitive "clean-coal" solutions, the need for an elaborate, expensive and unproven carbon capture and sequestration infrastructure is eliminated with the Bixby Process.

This separates the coal into clean synthetic natural gas (syngas) and semi-activated carbon without the heavy carbon emissions normally associated with current coal burning or other gasification technologies. The technology does not consume water (although it does use it), and creates no effluent or waste byproducts as a result of the process other than natural gas and semi-activated carbon.

Initial payments on three orders representing millions of dollars in revenue for Bixby's devolitization system have already been received from customers in China. The company is in the process of producing these units, the first of which is currently being readied for shipment.

Coal represents an overwhelming majority of America's major fossil fuel reserves. In fact, the U.S. has the largest coal reserves in the world with 27 percent of the world's supply according to the Institute for the 21st Century Energy, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.  

Based on current U.S. coal consumption habits, it is estimated by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) that this supply could last another 250 years or more. Coal provides more energy density per pound than other forms of carbon-based feedstock. There are coal reserves in at least 70 other countries of the world. This means that regardless of other power sources available, coal will continue to play a vital role in supplying our electrical energy needs.

More than 50 percent of the electric energy in the U.S. alone comes from coal-fired power plants, which spew billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the air each year. It is estimated that emissions from these plants contribute 41 percent of the man-made pollution in the atmosphere. The best coal-fired power plants today capture only about 38 percent of the potential energy in coal, whereas the Bixby Process can capture up to 80 percent.  

Since Bixby Energy's technology produces clean energy from coal – and ultimately any carbon-based material – it can use all coal types for its feedstock. This means that coal which cannot be used by coal-fired technologies today because of their high sulfur content, for example, are readily usable with this technology.  

"The United States has centuries' worth of coal underground. Coal is thought to be a 'dirty' source of energy. But, in reality, coal is not the culprit. The carbon-emissions problem actually stems from the process of burning coal to produce energy which was developed more than 80 years ago," said Mr. Walker.

Available with or without filters for UV, infrared and full spectrum applications, Aries' new optical FA test socket can be used for laser FA microscopy testing using EMMI and LSIM (laser signal injection microscopy) techniques.  These FA techniques are efficient, non-invasive optical analysis tools used to detect and localize certain IC failures with maximum clarity and contrast.  The techniques can be performed from either the front or back of the device.

Orexigen® Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: OREX) today announced results from a 24-week open-label study demonstrating that treatment with Contrave® resulted in significant improvements in depressive symptoms that was accompanied by weight loss and improved control of eating in overweight and obese patients with major depression.  

The primary endpoint of the study was the change from baseline in the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) at 12 weeks on an intent-to-treat (ITT) basis.  Treatment with Contrave32 (32mg naltrexone sustained release (SR)/360mg bupropion SR) resulted in the MADRS score decreasing from an average of 23.7 at baseline (consistent with moderate depression) to 10.5 (mild depression) (p<0.001) at week 12 and further decreasing to 8.4 (remission) at week 24 (p<0.001).  Patients who completed the study lost an average of 9.2% of total body weight and reported substantial reductions in hunger, strength and frequency of food cravings and demonstrated improved control of eating.

"Recent reports in the literature show that the risk of depression is higher in obese people and, at the same time, depression has been associated with increased obesity.  In addition, obese women are more than twice as likely to be depressed as non-obese women.  In this context, clinicians are in need of new tools to treat obese patients suffering from this common co-morbidity," said Dr. Susan McElroy, M.D., Lindner Center of HOPE, Mason, Ohio.  "This study is the first step in assessing the value of Contrave in this important patient population and these positive results should encourage additional investigation."

In this study, the most common adverse events were nausea, constipation, headache and insomnia, and, in general, were consistent with past experience in the COR program.  There were no serious adverse events reported by the investigator as related or possibly related to Contrave in the trial.

About Contrave

Contrave is an investigational combination therapy believed to address both physiological and behavioral drivers of obesity. The two components of this combination therapy act in a complementary manner in the central nervous system. The central pathways targeted by this treatment are involved in controlling the balance of food intake and metabolism, and regulating reward-based eating behavior.  In clinical trials, Contrave was shown to help obese patients initiate and sustain significant weight loss, improve important markers of cardiometabolic risk and increase ability to control eating.  

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tentatively scheduled a Division of Metabolic and Endocrine Drug Products Advisory Committee meeting on December 7, 2010 and the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) action date has been set for January 31, 2011.

About the Contrave Clinical Development Program

All four trials in the COR Phase 3 program (COR-I, COR-II, COR-BMOD and COR-Diabetes) were randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials. The co-primary endpoints were the proportion of patients achieving at least 5% weight loss and percent change in body weight compared to placebo. Secondary endpoints included multiple measures of cardiometabolic risk, quality of life, control of eating, and glycemic control.  Contrave was generally well tolerated.  The safety and tolerability profile of Contrave in the clinical development program was consistent with the safety profile of the constituent components, which have been in use for other indications for over 20 years.  The most frequent treatment-emergent adverse events in patients treated with Contrave were nausea, constipation, headache, vomiting and dizziness.  These were mostly mild to moderate in severity, transient, and typically occurred during the first weeks of treatment.  Most common adverse events leading to discontinuation with Contrave were nausea, headache, dizziness and vomiting.  Treatment with Contrave was not associated with increases in adverse event reports of depression or suicidal ideation compared to placebo.  Mean blood pressure with Contrave was generally unchanged from baseline to endpoint.  Placebo patients experienced decreases in blood pressure from baseline to endpoint of approximately 2mmHg.  Greater weight loss correlated with greater reductions in blood pressure in both Contrave and placebo patients, suggesting that the expected relationship between weight loss and blood pressure was maintained.  Importantly, normal circadian blood pressure patterns were preserved with Contrave.  There was an increase in pulse of about one beat per minute in patients taking Contrave.  Serious events were reported infrequently and included events of cholecystitis (Contrave 0.2%, PBO <0.1%), seizure (<0.1%, 0%) and major cardiovascular events (<0.1%, <0.1%).

VH1 has signed television personality La La Vazquez to a new series about her upcoming wedding including all the planning and festivities leading up to her big day. The five-part series will premiere on Sunday, September 19 at 10:30pm* and consist of four half-hour episodes and a one-hour wedding finale.

The series begins with La La meeting with A-list wedding planner to the stars Mindy Weiss and follows La La through all her wedding planning activities. Viewers will ride along as La La shops for the perfect designer wedding dress, chooses the wedding venue, picks out the ultimate wedding cake and menu, plans their honeymoon, and contemplates the guest list. Along the way viewers will also get a glimpse at La La's celeb-hosted bachelorette party in Las Vegas.

While planning her fairytale wedding and maintaining her and Carmelo's hectic schedules, La La works to balance the demands of her career, family, friends, and motherhood. The series will culminate in a one-hour lavish celebrity-filled wedding finale in New York that only this superstar couple could host.  

"From Charm School to the many reunion specials, I have loved being part of the VH1 family," says La La, "and I'm even more excited to now share the behind-the-scenes of this very personal event in my life, my wedding, with that family of viewers."

The Global Stevia Institute (GSI), a newly formed organization committed to promoting accurate, credible and consistent information about the natural, no-calorie sweetener stevia, today announced the launch of its website, www.globalsteviainstitute.com, and the formation of its international scientific advisory board and expert panel. GSI calls for consistent terminology

Dr. Keith T. Ayoob, internationally known nutrition expert and now executive director for the GSI notes that, "One of our goals is to have consumers around the world recognize the word 'stevia' to mean natural, no calorie and sweet. The GSI will broaden the understanding of stevia, its origins, its safety and its applicability to food choices and sweetening options around the world."  

As a first step in its education efforts and to avoid consumer confusion, the GSI is calling for consistent terminology when referring to the various sweeteners from the Stevia plant. In consumer communications, all sweet extracts should be referred to as stevia, rather than the numerous scientific names (such as rebaudioside, reb A, steviol glycosides).  This call to action is highlighted in the GSI's first white paper, which is available on the new website. The white paper also discusses the role of stevia in the world of sweet.

Website will be ongoing resource for health professionals and consumers

The Global Stevia Institute website will be an educational destination for the industry and consumers alike, highlighting important facts on stevia, news and findings from recent published scientific articles, patient education materials, and events. As information about stevia evolves and emerges, health professionals can sign up for ongoing updates and alerts for continued education.

The licensing agreement also enables Vanguard to launch eight new equity funds and ETFs targeting the growth and value segments of the S&P 500, and the growth, value and blend segments of the S&P MidCap 400 and the S&P SmallCap 600.

Next year two Holland America Line ships –– ms Maasdam and ms Eurodam –– will explore the historic seaports and scenic beauty of Canada and New England, offering guests the opportunity to sample some famous Maine lobster, walk Boston's Freedom Trail and sail along the St. Lawrence River.

The 2011 itineraries range from seven to 13 days and will feature 24 sailings between May and October. The region's beautiful jewel-toned foliage will be on display as summer turns to autumn, a favorite time of year to cruise Canada and New England.

Edens & Avant announces the groundbreaking of Mosaic, a 31-acre urban mixed-use development in Merrifield, Virginia, at the intersection of Interstate 66 and the Beltway (I-495). The project is part of a long-term revitalization of key areas in Fairfax County, home to the most affluent and educated citizens in the nation.

Momentum has been building for the development since Congressman Gerald E. Connolly championed a revitalization plan over a decade ago. "We knew the area was under-served and ripe for smart growth redevelopment," commented Connolly. "This town center is the key to the future of Merrifield, and the transformative urban revitalization that the community envisioned is now underway."

"As a company, we are energized to be a part of the revitalization of this district in Fairfax County," added Jodie W. Today Nature Rocks, a national program created to inspire and empower parents to take their families to play, explore and enjoy quality time in nature, announced a collaboration with the American Heart Association's Start! Initiative.  Start! encourages  increased physical activity among all Americans, emphasizing walking because it's easy, free and has the lowest dropout rate of any form of activity.

In January, the American Heart Association identified physical activity as one of the seven measures necessary for ideal cardiovascular health. Array Technologies announced today that its DuraTrack™ HZ solar tracker has been selected by American Capital Energy (ACE) for use in a 20-megawatt (MW) DC solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant being constructed near Searchlight, Nevada, 55 miles south of Las Vegas.

The project is the result of an agreement between ACE and NV Energy to assist NV Energy in meeting Nevada's portfolio standard.  The standard requires that 25% of energy be generated by renewable resources and energy efficiency and conservation programs by 2025.

Construction of the project will further help develop Nevada's burgeoning renewable energy workforce by creating more than 120 full-time temporary jobs ranging from engineering and consulting to general labor and the electrical trades.

New research by Optipoint Custom Tracking shows that integration of Electronic Onboard Recorders and other asset management systems with existing information technology infrastructure increases efficiencies and returns on investment. Performance of existing systems will substantially improve with such integration, the research shows.

As cell phone carriers like AT&T move to end unlimited usage plans, consumers have a new weapon in the arsenal to fend off overages and "gotchas." A new application called QuickMin is the first of its kind to display remaining cell minutes where talkers can't miss it--on the application's badge.

The singer/composer Aleks Syntek and actress/singer Danna Paola collaborated on the video of the song Yo Soy Tu Amigo Fiel. This new version for Latin America aired on radio on May 24 and will be available on iTunes Latino on June 15.

Danna Paola, better known as "Patito" for her role in the soap opera Atrevete a Sonar (which premiered with great success on Univision last April) is very enthused about her role in one of the most anticipated movies of the summer. "I am certain people will like the song and that it will be a success" said the singer.

Similarly, the famous group The Gipsy Kings, who have a long musical history, are happy and excited for the opportunity which Disney Pixar gave them in being responsible for the version of Hay Un Amigo En Mi which will be released in the United States. "It was a surprise and an honor for us to become involved in this film which the world has been awaiting for the past 10 years," said the successful group. 30,000 People run Across the Øresund Bridge Between Denmark and Sweden When the Bridge Run 2010 Kicks off Saturday, June 12. Runners of all Ages From More Than 25 Countries Participate in the Half Marathon Over and Under the sea, an Event That Also Marks the Start of the Celebrations for the Øresund Bridge's Tenth Anniversary.

In 1999, 2,000 commuters crossed the Øresund between Denmark and Sweden daily. Today, ten years after the Øresund Bridge opened, 20,400 individuals commute across the bridge every day. In other words, the Øresund Bridge has become an integral part of daily life for many as Danes and Swedes become ever closer.

This calls for a celebration - a run across the Øresund Bridge! Saturday's 30,000 runners comprise participants from across the world, including Japan, Eritrea, the US and Brazil. With 9,000 Swedes and 20,000 Danes, however, the majority of the runners come from the two countries connected by the Øresund link, Denmark and Sweden. The first full length run was in 2000 when the Bridge Run attracted 80,000 participants - a Guinness world record that stands to this day.

The Bridge Run 2010 is a key event in the Øresund Bridge's and the Øresund Region's tenth anniversary celebrations in Scania and Zealand. Food, music, art, architecture and science festivals are being held in Copenhagen and Malmö and across the rest of the region.

Facts about the Øresund Bridge

The 16 km Øresund Bridge, which connects Sweden with Denmark, consists of three elements: a bridge, the artificial island Peberholm and a tunnel. 72,000 people cross the link every day by car or by train.

New businesses have emerged with 20 per cent of every business in Malmö started by Danes, while Swedes find equal opportunities in the Danish capital of Copenhagen just 35 minutes away. 25,000 Danes currently live in Scania. 68 per cent of Zealanders and 44 per cent of Scanians have family, friends or colleagues across the waterway. In other words, the Øresund Bridge has become part of daily life for many as Danes and Swedes become ever closer.

The Øresund Bridge links Scania and Zealand and forms a region of 3.7 million inhabitants. The fixed link has made it easier to live on one side of the Øresund waterway between Sweden and Denmark and work on the other. Commuting has risen dramatically since the inauguration. Paramount Digital Entertainment, NASCAR, Sony Computer Entertainment of America ("SCEA") and Piranha Games today announced the upcoming launch of Days of Thunder: NASCAR Edition, a stock car arcade racer that will be available exclusively on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system this summer. Days of Thunder: NASCAR Edition gives players the opportunity to go head-to-head against select NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers, including champions such as Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Tony Stewart, and the drivers from the iconic "Days of Thunder" film from Paramount Pictures. Featuring multiple single-player and online multiplayer modes, gamers will take the wheel as one of the hottest drivers on the circuit to prove that "you can't stop the thunder!"

Rowdy Burns will be voiced by the actor from the film, Michael Rooker, also known for his roles in "Mallrats," "Eight Men Out" and "Cliffhanger." Days of Thunder: NASCAR Edition comes equipped with twelve NASCAR-sanctioned tracks, including Daytona International Speedway® and Talladega Superspeedway®.

With artificial intelligence tailored to match each film character and NASCAR driver, players will experience each driver's personality, driving style and maneuvers. For example, players will need to watch out for Cole Trickle's reckless, aggressive driving, Rowdy Burns' ruthless, veteran skills and Russ Wheeler's hot head. Cincinnati-based Pierre Foods, Inc. today announced a new line of more nutritious menu options that will be making an impact in school cafeterias across the country this coming school year. Smart Picks™ will be officially unveiled at the School Nutrition Association's Annual National Conference next month.  While other food manufacturers have committed to changing their products over the next two to five years, Smart Picks will be ready to serve in school cafeterias when school begins this August.
